May Flowers Bloom into Fingerplays

Flower Planting Time (To the tune: Row, Row, Row your Boat)

Dig, dig, dig the earth (pretend to dig)

Then you plant the seeds (pretend to plant)

A gentle rain (wiggle fingers down)

The bright sunshine (circle arms overhead)

And flowers you will see (open arms wide)

Five Little Daffodils

(Hold up one finger at a time, then add 2, 3, 4, and 5)

One little daffodil had nothing much to do, Out popped another one, then there were two. Two little daffodils were smiling at a bee, Out popped another one, then there were three. Three little daffodils were growing by the door, Out popped another one, then there were four. Four little daffodils were glad to be alive, Out popped another one, then there were five. Five little daffodils were wearing golden crowns, They danced in the breeze in green satin gowns.

Pre-Literacy Tip - Flowers Make a Happy Heart

A foundation for teaching our children to be literate is in helping them to know the tools that build resilience and inner well being. Taking time for flowers is a way to happy!

Flowers, cousins to trees, are steady friends to have in in life. Simply looking out the window at flowers blooming in the neighborhood and pointing them out to your child or taking a walk and stopping to say “hello” to a flower (or a tree) and, yes, to smell the roses, are tools for resilience and a pathway to well being.

Also - keeping flowers in the house is a radiant way to a smile. I budget my spending to include flowers – a small bunch of tulips or daisies or sunflowers are always on the table - the brightness they bring is like hug from a good friend.
