Pre-Literacy Tip: Playing + Toys = Learning

The Literacy Tip I have for you today is on how toys are enriching and educational for children. Children learn from their toys. A baby learns about colors and shapes when she picks up a toy block and even starts to see letters and numbers – all with a block. A toddler may like to sort her building blocks into piles by shape or color or size. Preschoolers can learn their ABC’s by playing with plastic letters and a magnetic board or even on a electronic game on a tablet. There are so many things that toys can do for a child and also important is the time the parent or caregiver spends playing with them. Playing together with your child and his toys makes for lasting happiness and helps that child to feel loved because they have your attention.
